The Highly Anticipated Sony a7R

Introducing the highly anticipated Sony a7R (Alpha 7R) Interchangeable Lens Camera. This camera is the next in line to the flagship Sony a99; including all the best features of the a99 with some excited new features.

Some Key Features with this new camera are:

Eye AF: With this camera you can capture subjects partially turned away from the camera in a shallow depth of field. This new feature is called Eye AF. All you have to do is focus on the face and a green frame appears over the prioritized eye to confirm the proper subject is locked. Eye AF can be used when the function is assigned to a customizable button, allowing users to instantly activate it depending on the scene.

Optimal Optics: The a7R is fully compatible with the Sony’s E-mount lens system as well as the lightweight and compact E-mount full-frame lenses from Carl Zeiss® and Sony’s G-Series. This allows you to take advantage of the light-weight body.

Quick Navi Pro: With Quick Navi Pro,you can respond quickly with just the right settings without searching through dedicated menus. Easily view all major shooting options on the LCD screen so you can rapidly confirm settings and make adjustments on the fly when fleeting shooting opportunities arise.

XGA OLED Tru-Finder: View every scene in rich detail with the 2.4M dot XGA OLED Tru-Finder, which features OLED improvements and the same 3-lens optical system used in the a99. Since the viewfinder faithfully displays what will appear in your recording, including the effects of your camera settings, you can accurately monitor your scene and the settings results. Two applications are currently available for a7R as of October 16, 2013: Direct Upload uploads photos directly to networking services and Smart Remote Control allows a smartphone to control the camera. Use Wi-Fi or NFC (near field communication) for convenient cordless image transfer to Android™ smartphones and tablets. Optional 35mm Full-Frame Compatible Adapter: In addition to E-mount lenses, you can add an optional 35mm full-frame compatible adapter (LA-EA3 or LA-EA4) to mount any A-mount lens to the a7R. The LA-EA4 features a built-in AF motor, aperture-drive mechanism and Translucent Mirror Technology to enable continuous phase-detection AF. Both adapters feature a tripod hole that allows mounting of a tripod to support large A-mount lenses.

ProMAX Launches New Platform Series 4 Workflow Servers

ProMAX Systems, the manufacturer of Platform workflow servers, high-performance ONE workstations and Cache-A archival appliances, has released the ProMAX Platform Series 4, its latest and most advanced workflow servers for video professionals. The new Series 4 servers include powerful asset management features as well as a built in transcoding engine and an elegant new web interface that enables access to the system from anywhere on the network and delivers a superior collaborative production experience for video workgroups. Available with Series 4 are new high-performance storage modules with capacity up to 96TB per chassis. These “Extreme” shared storage modules deliver 2x the video streaming performance of standard Platform modules and enable full resolution 4K editing, up to 10 total streams of ProRes Ultra HD.

Platform Series 4 servers have been engineered to improve collaborative video workflows. Key to this design are new media asset management features accessible from within the web interface. These features include ingest with automated proxy generation, custom metadata tagging, search and preview. So critical to content creation, these asset management functions are included in Platform Series 4 and require no additional licensing fees. A new transcode engine has been built into Series 4 servers to power media conversion for ingest and delivery and is capable of handling multiple transcode jobs in sequence. All media assets and features are easily accessed and managed through an elegant web-based interface, new to Platform Series 4. Addressing the needs of 4K workflows, Series 4 provides new high-performance and high capacity shared storage modules. The “SHARE Extreme” module is the first true shared storage solution for workgroups editing in full resolution 4K. SHARE Extreme delivers double the streaming performance of Platform standard storage modules and enables full res 4K editing for up to 5 users or a total of 10 concurrent streams of 4K ProRes 422 UltraHD. Platform Series 4 boasts a huge increase in storage capacity, up to 96TB per Online server (in just 3RU of rack space) and up to 216TB per Nearline server (in just 4RU of rack space).
